Blood at the Root: A Racial Cleansing in America

Patrick Phillips's "Blood at the Root: A Racial Cleansing in America" is an interesting account of events that transpired in Forsyth County, Georgia in the 1900's (until the turn of the century). I vaguely remember hearing about Forsyth County when I was younger and this book filled in the blanks with the backstory that was not covered by the press. The history of this particular county was often violent and sometimes gruesome. I don't think many people realize 'systems' like those in Forsyth County existed in recent times; many people seem to be under the false impression that many of these racist/bigoted regions/systems faded into history around the mid-1900's, but this is far from true. Even to this day, I know of numerous areas/towns with rather homogeneous populations, where anyone different would be ostracized and/or run out of town.
I won my copy of this book from the Goodreads website. It is well-written and informative and I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this work.
